Dr. Speed is a native of San Jose, California.  She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and her D.D.S. degree from Howard University School of Dentistry in 1990. Dr. Speed started Harmony in 1996, a company providing dental services for residential care facilities as an independent contractor in greater Sacramento. She is a recipient of the Howard University Department of Community Dentistry Award and the Ida Simon Memorial Award. Dr. Speed is a    member of the Sacramento District Dental Society (SDDS), California Dental Association and the American Dental Association.  Dr. Speed is a board member of the Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce, Local Salvation Army and is a member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., as well as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She is a member of Antioch Progressive Baptist Church. She was named Women of the Year in the 10th Assembly District in 1999 by Assemblyman Anthony Pescetti.
